2023 MAY 5, 6 & 7
FAIAL ISLAND, AZORES
Azores Trail Run is a non-profit organization that promotes trail running events in the Azores archipelago. The ULTRA BLUE ISLAND is the queen event of the Azores Trail Run organizations, which will take place on May 5, 6, and 7, 2023, in Faial, an island of volcanic origin embraced by the Atlantic Ocean, whose rugged terrain, lush landscape, and mild climate invite the practice of the sport like few other places in the world. This is where your big challenge is born.
Comprising five distances, the event gives you the opportunity to choose the course that will dazzle you. Among the natural charms and historical sites of the island, UBI offers races of 118km (Whalers' Great Route Ultra-Trail®/WGR), 65km (Ultra Blue Island Trail/UBI), 42km (Marathon Faial Coast to Coast/MFCC), 25km (Trail Ten Volcanoes/TTV) and 10km (Mini Family Trail/MFT).
Holding the UBI in the month of May marks the arrival of spring. The longer days allow you, during the race, to observe the diversity of nature and witness unique moments while you run. Beyond the race, there is a multitude of activities that you can't miss: watching the whales and dolphins that populate the crystal clear waters of the Azores or visiting the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Center - harmoniously set in the unmistakable lunar landscape that hosts the race finish line, are some of them, as well as tasting the delicious Azorean gastronomy, visiting the numerous sites that evoke the centuries-old position of the city of Horta as a meeting point of the world, drinking a gin at Peter's or contemplating the magnificent open-air gallery of the local Marina. You can also quickly visit the two adjacent islands: Pico and São Jorge, respectively 30 minutes and 2 hours away (ferry trips every day).
One of the greatest charms of UBI is the involvement of the volunteers. The population of Faial unites to help you reach your goals; so that, in the end, you reach your own goal in this adventure of "trail running" in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

RUN THE 118K WHALERS' GREAT ROUTE ULTRA-TRAIL® AND QUALIFY FOR THE WESTERN STATES ENDURANCE RUN
Runners who complete the race within 26 hours will qualify to enter a lottery where the runners for Western States will be selected. The qualifying period for the 2024 Western States will be from November 1, 2023 through November 21, 2023. The lottery will be held on December 3, 2023 and the race itself will be run on June 22-23, 2024.
