Volcanoes
A unique trail running experience, where you will walk the volcanoes on Faial Island.
The Volcanoes 25K takes you along one of the island's most iconic trails, through landscapes shaped by fire and time. Starting at Ribeira Funda (Cedros) on Faial's northern coast, the course climbs into the heart of the island, crossing the Caldeira of Faial — one of the largest calderas in the Azores and the geological core of the island.
Over roughly 26 km with 3,870 ft+ of elevation, runners encounter the island's biodiversity and geodiversity in their rawest form: pastures and ancient laurel forest giving way to the volcanic crater, then descending through the eastern parishes toward the Atlantic. Every step is a journey across millions of years of volcanic history.
The adventure ends in Horta, at Avenida 25 de Abril, on the city's seafront, a finish that closes a route from the wild northern shore to one of the most stunning bays in the world.
